Paying a bill online: how to do it

In order to pay the bills we are used to going to the nearest post office, waiting in line for those who carry out the operations (and in some days it is almost impossible to hurry in less than half an hour) and finally to pay all the bills with cash, making sure the employee stamps the bill on the bill.
All this is now outdated: from today we can pay all the bills we receive at home comfortably in front of the PC or smartphone, just use the online services of the Italian Post, the specific app of the Italian Post or alternatively contact the website of our reference bank.
In this guide we will show you all the methods to pay online a bill (both pre-filled and a white bill) in a simple and fast way, obtaining the same payment stamp obtainable in the post office.

Pay a bill online on the Italian Post Office website

The first method we recommend for paying any online newsletter is to use the Italian Post Office website, reachable here -> Italian Post Office .
If we are not yet registered on the site, it is a good time to do it: just click on the top right corner on the word Personal area, then click on Register . We insert all the required personal data, a valid email and a password to successfully register for the service.
Once finished (or in case we already have an account) just click again in the upper right corner on Personal Area, enter your credentials and finally click Login . Once logged in, we can immediately locate the menus we need on the home page of the site, as shown in the image below.

We use the right menu based on the type of bulletin to be paid (pre-filled or white). The same menus are accessible by clicking the menu at the top Online Services and selecting Pay Bulletin .

A similar menu is present by directly accessing the personal area, where there are the two menus for paying the bills.

Whatever the route used, a new menu similar to the one shown in the image below will appear.

We will only have to manually fill in all the required fields as visible in the paper newsletter, paying particular attention to the amount to be paid, to the current account where to pay the money and to the identification code of the newsletter. At the end of the compilation, the site will choose how to pay the bill: we can use all the tools made available by Poste Italiane (BancoPosta account, PostePay etc.) or a credit card from another bank. If you use a Poste Italiane tool to pay, you may need to use the random code generator to complete the payment operation: make sure you have it handy to be able to regularly pay your bill online.
To correctly identify the type of bulletin to be paid, look at the code in the lower right corner of the paper bulletin:
- 123 : premarked bulletin
- 896 or 674 : white bulletin
Currently the cost of commission for the payment through the Italian Post Office website is € 1.10 (to be added to the amount to be paid), therefore lower than the cost made at the counter (which is € 1.50 except for reductions due to age).
Pay a bill online through the Poste Italiane app
As an alternative to the site, it is possible to pay any postal order using the Poste Italiane apps, which have a service very similar to that available on the site.
If we have a BancoPosta account of any kind, we can download the app for free from here -> BancoPosta (Android) and BancoPosta (iOS).
If instead we intend to use a PostePay for payment, we will have to download the specific app from here -> Postepay (Android) and Postepay (iOS).
Whichever app you choose, simply login into it with your credentials (already created on the site or created within the app via the Register button) and, among the menu items available in the app, click on the Pay item and later on Bulletin .

The app will choose the type of bulletin and will require the manual compilation of all the required fields, exactly as on the site.
At the end of the compilation it is sufficient to select the instrument with which to pay the bill (among those available from Poste Italiane) and finally use the Pay button. Also in this case, as for the website, it may be necessary to use the random code generator to complete the payment operation, therefore it is better to always have it behind it otherwise the payment will not be possible. With Postepay the payment is much simpler, just fill in the fields and pay with the remaining credit of the prepaid.
Also through the app, the commission fee for the payment is € 1.10 (to be added to the sum to be paid).

Pay a bank bill online

The last method we can use to pay an online bill is to take advantage of the online services offered by the bank with which we have an active checking account. The service obviously changes according to the bank used, but practically all of them offer the possibility to pay an online newsletter using the funds of the current account. We then access the personal area from our bank's website and look for the item Bulletins or Bills .

We select the type of bulletin to be paid, fill in the required fields as already seen previously (paying particular attention to the account number, the number and the code), then we authorize the payment by current account. Even the chosen bank could offer payment of the bulletins through a dedicated app, but in this case we always recommend checking this possibility in advance.
The commissions for the payment of the bulletins through home-banking could be higher than the online services offered by Poste Italiane: in some cases the commissions can even reach € 2.50, even if some banks (especially those exclusively online) they offer much more reasonable prices.
