Although most applications work with an internet connection, it is not always possible to keep the phone connected and there are times when it would be nice to use the smartphone functions even if there is no network. Just think, for example, of when you are on a plane without internet, when you go to some isolated place, rural countryside or mountains, or when you travel abroad without a subscription, in places where you can connect to the internet with the Italian SIM it costs a lot.
In this article we therefore see the most useful apps that can be used offline on Android smartphones and iPhones, which also work well and do their job without the need for an internet connection.

1) Google Maps
Google Maps works offline both as maps and as a GPS navigator.
To use Google Maps as a navigator in any country you travel by car you must first prepare and download the maps on your phone, by touching a point and then pressing the button with three dots in the upper right corner.
Once a portion of the map has been downloaded, it will be possible to search for directions even without an internet connection.

2) Pocket (Android and iPhone)
Pocket is a popular web application that allows you to save websites to open them offline and store them in one place what you want to read, so you can then find them on other PCs or on your smartphone.
The Android and iPhone app allows you to access stored web pages even when the phone is offline.
Also in this case, therefore, you must first prepare to read and download them to your phone so that you can then read them offline.
3) Amazon Kindle or Google Play Books
With these two applications it is possible to download books to read.
Once the downloads are complete, the various ebooks can be read without an internet connection.
Once you go back online, the bookmarks will be synchronized on your account in order to continue reading from any other computer or device.
4) Podcast Player for Android or Overcast for iPhone
This application allows you to download podcasts to your phone in order to listen to them offline.
This means that you can download episodes from your favorite radio broadcasts and listen to them whenever you want.
The ability to download podcasts is an indispensable feature for those who take the plane or subway daily.
5) TripAdvisor (Android and iPhone)
This is the application to download every time you go to visit a city, to know itineraries and places to see with the walking routes that follow you in real time.
Tripadvisor, in fact, provides interactive maps to download for the main cities of the world and therefore allows you to consult guides and reviews on all tourist places and also restaurants and clubs without internet connection, with the phone offline.
6) Netflix
Although Netflix is a platform for streaming movies, it offers the possibility to download content first and then view it offline.
At any time when you plan to stay offline for longer periods (for example for an airplane trip), you can, as already explained, download the episodes of your favorite TV shows or films from Netflix to be able to watch them without a connection.
7) Spotify Premium
A bit like Netflix, in case you have a subscription with Spotify (from 10 Euros per month), you can download the music and songs you want to be able to listen to them offline when and where you prefer.
The Premium subscription also removes the advertisements so that you can listen to the songs without interruption.

8) Google Drive
The Google Drive app is excellent for working on documents, spreadsheets and presentations even if there is no internet connection.
To use Google Drive offline you just need to be sure to mark documents for offline availability when you're still online.
To do this, open the app, tap the three dot icon next to a file, then tap the " Available offline " option.
9) Kiwix (Android and iPhone)
This is the application for those who want to keep the Wikipedia encyclopedia in memory so that they can find information on everything, without necessarily connecting to the internet.
10) Google Translate offline
The Google Translate app allows you to download language packs to be able to translate words even without an internet connection.
The option to download languages is found in the settings of the installed Google Translate application.
