Real-time lightning map

The Internet is full of websites with weather information, although there are few good ones, which provide complete and easy to view information.
Certainly there was not, until now, a site that showed the fall of lightning in real time.
Blitzortung is a small project managed in Germany that connects a network of hundreds of sensors to detect lightning all over the world, in real time, when the surface of the Earth is hit .
Since the site is based in Europe, there are hundreds of sensors concentrated around the borders of Germany, Austria, France and Italy, with a great many in other countries, including the United States, North and South America.
The process is simple: if there is a thunderstorm over Rome and lightning strikes the center of the city, most (if not all) of the sensors detect it.
The system can triangulate the position of the lightning at a point on the map using the signals sent by the sensors at a point on the map.
The detection takes place in real time, within four seconds and is accurate within one kilometer.
The calculation takes place automatically in a millisecond, through a synchronization system of the signals sent from the individual stations to the central server, which does not require any manual intervention.
Looking at the Blitzortung map you can see the various lightning strikes that hit the ground in half the world and also hear the sound of thunder .
On the site there are the Europe map and the enlargements for the various areas, including the south west area with Spain, France and Italy.
The site also maintains an archive to see the history of lightning strikes that have fallen in a certain period of time in Europe, the USA and North America.
The Blitzortung website also offers an app for Android smartphones and tablets that can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store .
