Install MacOS Catalina on Mac from USB stick from scratch

Apple has released the system update for MacOS Catalina, which can be downloaded and installed directly from the Mac Store.
This method works for almost all users, keeps existing data and programs intact, updates the machine with the latest operating system. The one available in the Mac App Store is only an update, therefore, if you want to do a clean installation, you need to manually create an installation CD or flash drive .
To do this it takes a little work and patience because the process is a little more complicated than it was for previous versions, but with Navigaweb nothing is difficult so let's now see how to download MacOs, how to create the USB stick and how to install it from scratch .

The new installation will erase all the contents on the disk, so it is good to have a backup of the important files on another external drive before proceeding. To do a fresh installation of MacOS, you need a USB stick of at least 8 GB in size.
It is also possible to use a hard disk partition inside the Mac, but this complicates life a little.
First of all, download MacOS Catalina from the Mac App Store or by clicking on this link
The installation file is 5.2GB and is located in the Applications folder.
Now, format the USB stick by opening the Disk Utility application on the Mac.
Select the drive in the sidebar, select the " Erase " tab and format the drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" and leaving the disk name "untitled".
(Note: if you already have a disk or partition named " Untitled " connected to your computer, rename it or change the terminal command variable, to be launched later).
Click on Erase and, after formatting the USB stick, close Disk Utility and create the installation USB stick.
At this point you can use the Install Disk Creator application to automate the creation of the MacOS USB boot disk . This is by far the easiest way to create a bootable drive to install MacOS from scratch; the only caveat is that the installation file is inside the Applications folder.
However, the process is slower than the manual method which requires you to launch a specific command from the MacOS terminal.
Open a terminal window and run this command:
sudo / Applications / Install \ macOS \ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume / Volumes / Catalina /
Press Enter and wait until the creation process finishes.
Once the USB drive has been created, it's time to install MacOS
Restart (or boot) the Mac with the USB drive connected and hold down the Option key (Alt key) to access the screen that allows you to select the starting disk, including the USB drive that installs the Apple system.
