Prevent emails from disappearing when read by an app or client

A rather frequent problem for many is to prevent emails from disappearing from the server when received from Android devices, from clients on mobile phones, from iPhones and even from computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook.
The problem all depends on the configuration of the so-called POP server, the one responsible for receiving emails on a device or on a computer.
When using the POP server, you also need to change an option (often already set) to not delete mail from a server.
The best way now is to use the IMAP server which automatically leaves mail on a server until it is deleted from the client .
With a POP account, when the client downloads an email to read it on the computer and the message is removed from the server and it will not be present on other client mail reading apps.
This is the default behavior that avoided filling old e-mail boxes.
Now that the space is almost infinite, this behavior can be changed with the option of leaving a copy on the server.
If you leave the copy on the server, when you read that email from a second device, it won't disappear.
IMAP, on the other hand, automatically leaves a copy on the server, so there is no additional configuration needed and every message received can be reread from any device.
IMAP also has the advantage of letting the user work with folders and subfolders, which POP cannot do.

Understanding what it means to use POP or IMAP, it is obvious that the ideal answer to the problem is to always set up e-mail accounts, both on your mobile phone and on a computer, such as IMAP to be sure that you never lose an e-mail just because has been read.
All major email services like Gmail, Yahoo Mail and Outlook.com have an IMAP server so setting it up won't be a problem.
If you are using an e-mail service that does not support IMAP, then you need to change that famous option that keeps messages on the server.
Let's see here how to do it on an Android smartphone.
Open the email application, tap the menu button and click Settings .
Tap Account settings, go to the account you want to configure, tap More settings and then Inbox settings .
Scroll down and look for the option Delete email from server to change its behavior.
In other mail clients like Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird you have to look for the same option.
Remember, however, that if you delete a message manually, it will be removed from the server and not visible to other mail clients either.
The account synchronizes with the used applications so a deleted message is no longer recovered.
