What to do if the phone memory is full (Android)

Limited memory is one of the weak points of smartphones, especially on Android phones equipped with less than 64 GB of memory: high-definition photos, sharing of multimedia files on chats and videos in 4K can quickly saturate the space available.
It is not an isolated case therefore finding oneself with almost full memory and the need to increase the space in the phone, perhaps spending less than buying a new smartphone with large memory.
Speaking of smartphones Samsung, Huawei and other Android models, we discover in this guide how to gain new space available with different tricks, even without the need to use a microSD memory card (which on many models it is not even possible to insert).
To conclude we will show you the models of microSD memory cards that you can buy on the models where this type of support is provided, so as to increase the memory of the phone by spending very little.

1) How to check the amount of memory
To check how space is used by an Android phone, all we have to do is go to the Settings app and look for Memory or Storage, often also identified as Memory or Internal Memory .

In the menu that will open (based on the operating system in use and the customizations of the manufacturers) we will be able to find valid information on the files on the device, so as to immediately identify the type of file that takes up the most space (usually photos and videos).
2) Delete photos and videos
After checking the type of files that take up memory, we can increase the space available in the almost full memory of the Android phone by deleting the photos and videos present, perhaps saving them on the PC to avoid losing them.
In other times we would have had to resort to programs to transfer photos from mobile phone to computer, which, however, even if they work without cables and with WiFi connection, still remain uncomfortable and require a manual activity that you can forget.
Alternatively we can completely rely on the Google Photos app, which alone allows you to brilliantly solve the space problem on Android.

Google Photos allows you to save online photos of your phone and even videos automatically.
Then when the space in the mobile phone is low and the memory is almost full, it is the app itself that reports the memory problem and offers a cleaning system to free up space, deleting all the photos and possibly the videos that are already safe online.
Photos and videos will however always be visible, in Google Photos, when the phone is connected to the internet and will also be visible from every computer on the Google Photos website .
While this type of backup is also available with other apps, that of Google Photos has the particularity of not having space limitations (we can upload photos and videos indefinitely), as long as the photos are uploaded with the "High quality" option ", that is, with a maximum photo resolution of 16 megapixels and 1080p video.
3) Multimedia content of the chat apps
Regarding the photos, there is also to check how much space the files sent and received with WhatsApp are occupying, which occupy a different position than the photos and videos taken with the camera.
In another article we saw in detail how to delete Whatsapp images from groups and chats to free up memory.
We don't just control WhatsApp, but we also check the folders used by Telegram or other similar apps (Instagram for example) to be able to delete photos that take up more space.
A good app to view all the folders of the system is File Manager, which catalogs the images in a separate category, to be able to access them quickly.

4) Clear app data and cache
Other space can be obtained on Android by deleting the data created by the applications, although in this case it should be noted that these data will still be recreated in a short time.
We have seen, in another article, how to clear cache and app data on Android.
In another article we also talked about apps for cleaning Android from unnecessary files that take up space; among all the noni apps we recommend using SD Maid, the most effective app to delete obsolete files.

This app is very effective, safe and allows you to automatically perform the cleanings necessary to keep the internal memory always clean from unnecessary files and from the caches of the largest apps (which regenerate themselves and take up space again).
5) Remove the apps we don't use
Another very effective trick to increase space on Android with almost full memory is to remove apps that we don't use .
In this regard, we have seen in other guides how to uninstall Android apps and especially how to disable pre-installed apps.
In particular, it may be convenient to use much lighter apps than the official ones, especially for messaging and social apps; in this regard, we point out the Facebook Lite app instead of Facebook and Messenger Lite instead of Facebook Messenger.
6) microSD for compatible phones
After seeing the best tips to increase space on Android, we just have to recommend the best microSD that we can place inside the phones that offer expandable memory (better check before making a useless purchase!).
- Samsung MB-ME32GA / EU EVO Select 32 GB (18 €)
- 64GB Samsung MB-ME64GA / EU EVO Select (27 €)
- SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Memory Card (€ 21)
- SanDisk Ultra 128 GB MicroSDXC Memory Card (26 €)
- Samsung MB-MC256GA / EU EVO Plus 256 GB MicroSD Card (58 €)
- Samsung MB-ME256GA / EU EVO Select 256 GB MicroSDXC (83 €)
Another thing not to be overlooked is the compatibility of the capacities: if on our Android smartphone it is indicated that we can expand the memory up to 32 or 64 GB, we do not buy higher-cut microSD cards, since they may not work or report data loss.
In another article we saw that it is possible to use a USB stick on Android as extra OTG memory on smartphones and tablets so that you can move photos, videos and any other files on your PC.
