How to find the phone off (if lost)

Looking for a lost phone, if it is turned off, is a really big problem, because normal localization tools stop working and any methodology certainly requires a bit of luck. In addition to luck, the most important factor in trying to find a smartphone if it is now empty or turned off, is time: as soon as you realize you don't know where the mobile phone is, you must act immediately to find it, both by making a memory effort, either, as we will see here, using technological tools that can certainly help.
In this guide, therefore, we see all that can be done to find the lost smartphone even if it is turned off, with different ways of locating it depending on whether it is a Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi or any other Android phone or an iPhone .

Standard ways to track your smartphone

We have seen in another guide all the ways to track down the Android phone or iPhone . Both operating systems, i.e. Android and iOS, have a location feature inside them that allows you to know where the smartphone is at any time, if it is turned on: find my Android, which can be activated in the phone settings and Find mine iPhone, to be activated in the iOS settings.
If we have a Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei or other smartphone with Android system, it will therefore be possible to go to the Google site //www.google.com/android/find to locate it, while the iPhone can be traced by opening the iCloud.com site. .
In addition to seeing the map, from the Android phone's location site and from iCloud, you can make the phone ring . This works even if the smartphone is set with the silent ringtone and does not emit any sound if it is called with a phone.
In both cases it is possible to make sure that, once it is turned on by whoever finds it (or by whoever stole it), it is blocked. Furthermore, it is also possible to send the command to delete all the data inside it, if we are practically sure that we will never find it again.
For iPhone, it is also possible to make sure that the lost phone can send an SMS with the geographical coordinates to find it, useful if the smartphone is turned on but offline and not connected to the internet.

Find the phone off with Google Maps

Whether with an Android phone or an iPhone, if we have set up a Google account and have not turned off location history within the Google Maps app, you can see exactly where we were during the day and where the phone was last that was on. You can then check the location history of Google Maps to see all the movements made with the phone in your pocket or bag, with all times and dates. The site where the travel map is located is //www.google.com/maps/timeline

Use other applications to find the phone

On each Android smartphone you can install an additional application that allows you to find a phone when it is lost, taking advantage of the network location and that of GPS. We talked about these apps in several posts, with the anti-theft apps for Android to control and block the mobile phone remotely from the PC and the apps to find the stolen or lost mobile phone .
Among these, one of the most effective and most particular is, of course, Android Lost, not the easiest to use, but with a feature that makes it more effective than many others as an anti-theft device. Even if, in fact, the phone was turned off, it is possible to send him an SMS so that as soon as it is turned on (if someone finds it), he can execute a command to be identified. By SMS, therefore, if the app is installed in the phone, you can activate the wifi network, record from the microphone, take a photo, read SMS and much more. To use this application, which hides in the system with another name after installation, SMS commands must be used as explained on the Androidlost website.
Obviously, all the methods explained here and any other can be found through external apps, try to locate the position of a smartphone via the network connection and the GPS satellites, therefore, if the phone is off or discharged, all this will not be possible. Fortunately, through the applications and tools seen above, it is still possible to know at least the last position and activate actions that can facilitate the finding later.
Finally, let's remember the Android apps to make the phone ring even if it is silent or does not pick up, useful when you lose your phone at home.
