1) The first advice to give to those who cannot use the PC should be to give up the traditional Windows PC and buy an iPad, an Android tablet, a Chromebook, or a Mac .
In the end, most people who use a computer at home don't really need Windows and too many programs.
Relatives, friends and users who know nothing about computer science will use the internet, Facebook, chats, emails and little else.
So if you don't need Windows for particular work programs, you can save a lot of problems by using another type of computer less vulnerable to errors, malicious software, viruses, malware.
Android tablets or iPads are perfect touchscreen-only computers to navigate, a Chromebook is a laptop with an operating system made only of web applications (works only if connected to the internet) while the Mac is a real computer, alternative to a Windows PC, much more expensive.
2) Install Linux
If you already own a PC and don't want to buy anything new, you can install an operating system like Linux Ubuntu on your computer.
Ubuntu works much friendlier today than before and is not vulnerable to malware.
In another article we have seen the best programs for Linux PCs with Ubuntu instead of Windows.
An ignorant user (in the sense of not a computer expert) may not even notice which system he is using, whether Windows or Linux or otherwise would not suffer major shortcomings from one system to another. With Linux it is almost impossible to perform operations that damage the system if you do not know Linux technically. Of course, for anyone who requires Windows programs, this option is out of the question.
3) Remove administrator rights
Anyone who uses a Windows computer and is afraid of doing damage (or to configure their parent's computer), you can set up a limited user account, which cannot modify system files.
They will not be able to install many types of software which can potentially harm their computers.
The administrator account can be used only when you need to install a new program or to make special changes to the configuration.
Of course, this is a double-edged sword in case the computer that you are going to protect and armor from errors is used by the relative who, whenever he needs to install something new, will have to request it from us. To change the user type and add a new standard user to Windows, use the control panel in the User accounts section.
4) Set up remote access
The best way to work on another person's computer is not to go to his home but to install software on it that enables remote access to that computer via an internet connection.
The best free remote assistance solution is Teamviewer .
5) Perform regular maintenance on the PC
The main maintenance activities to ensure that the PC always remains in shape and with good performance are: file cleaning, disk check, backup, updates.
In another article the detail of the computer maintenance activities to fix Windows .
If the one to fix instead is the computer of other people then read on how to plan maintenance activities of the Windows PC automatically .
6) Secure the PC
We have said several times that on a computer, to avoid being hit by a virus, you need at least an antivirus and luckily this is already integrated in Windows 10 (see article on Windows Defender in Windows 10).
For the rest it is advisable to read Basic rules and tools for computer security
7) Run Windows in a Sandbox so that, on reboot, everything returns as before .
To maintain public PCs, hotels, libraries and internet cafes ensure that users cannot alter or damage them with an automatic recovery system at each restart.
In other words, all changes made to the computer's operating system can be canceled instantly by simply restarting the PC.
Two free programs can be used to make a PC for public use and restore it on reboot: Reboot Restore Rx and SteadierState.
In another article, however, we talked about how to protect your computer by canceling the changes with Time Freeze.
