How to backup a Nokia mobile phone to a PC

Nokia phones are, personal tastes permitting, the best phones that are produced in the world.
The reason for this clear statement of mine lies in several factors including, in summary:
- They are very easy to use.
- They are equipped with an operating system (the firmware), the Symbian, compatible with many applications thanks also to Java support.
- There are many models to choose with costs from 60 Euros to 600 Euros.
- They are equipped with a management software to read and modify the data, photos and videos stored on the phone, even from computers where they can be saved.
- The firmware of the mobile phone can be updated via the internet comfortably.
UPDATE: The New Nokia 2018 are all smartphones with Android operating system, so the guide on how to backup Android is worth.
The program that allows you to synchronize and manage an old Nokia phone, those with the Symbian operating system, is no longer available on the Nokia website and can be downloaded from the CCM.it site.
The main functions of the Nokia PC Suite are:
- Add or Remove Programs to install Java (.jar) or Symbian (.sys) programs and games
- Backup to save phone data on pc
- File Manager to see all the files of the mobile phone, including images, photos, music and videos, and useful for transferring files from PC to phone and vice versa.
Among the functions of the Nokia PC Suite there is also that of updating the firmware of the phone, a very useful function that requires a lot of attention.
Updating the firmware improves the performance of the mobile phone in terms of speed, decreases the number of errors and possible blockages, installs new applications.
You have to be careful because:
- First of all you should never use bluetooth, but update via cable.
- During the new software installation wizard, you must never disconnect the phone from the computer otherwise there may be serious trouble.
- Another thing to consider is that, by updating the software, the phone is cleared of all customizations and all data is deleted, from the address book to messages, from photos to multimedia files.
Before updating you must therefore make a total backup by launching the Nokia PC Suite and starting the backup by pressing the icon of the safe half open.
The Backup procedure allows you to choose what to save on your PC, whether it is in the phone memory or what is on the memory card.
You can save: contacts from the address book, calendar and calendar, notes, SMS text messages, settings and favorite sites.
Then choose where to save the bckup file and the name that, by default, shows the backup date and the name of the phone with the final extension .nbu .
By pressing Next, the backup begins until the user is alerted by a warning that the backup has completed.
Before updating the software or resetting the Nokia to the factory settings, it is better to save the photos, music and videos that will presumably be on the memory card on a PC .
By opening the File Manager, you should find these objects in the Images, Sounds and Videos folders.
Now you can press the Update button, download the Nokia Updater program and follow the wizard.
To restore the saved data, address book, messages and the rest, you can click again on the Backup button of the Nokia PC Suite and choose, this time, the Restore operation.
The data can also be imported to other Nokia phones.
For the address book and the messages, there are two specific icons on the PC Suite and they are used to display them and also to save them.
In particular, the Address Book can be saved or, better, exported (select the names of the address book to activate the export from the File menu) in txt or csv files and can then be imported into almost all phones, even of other brands.
Instead, avoid the specific functions of video, music and images because you first use the File Manager.
Since the file saved by the Nokia Pc Suite, it is read only with this and not with the normal text editors.
In this regard, read the trick to extract address book and text messages and save them on your PC from the Nokia Pc Suite backup.
Not all non-Nokia phones have this ease of saving data which, I believe, is really important in order not to lose from the phone, the address book and other important things, especially in cases of theft or damage.
For other Nokia and other mobile phones, see how to transfer your address book, contacts and SMS with an online backup.
If you have a branded phone, that is, branded and configured by Vodafone Tim Wind or Tre, I strongly recommend that you sign the mobile phone to receive the latest updates, as indicated in a guide some time ago, which should still work for almost all models.
