How to activate Do Not Disturb on iPhone

How many times will it have happened that you will not be able to answer a phone call and forget the active ringtone "> and only let incoming calls pass by selected contacts such as relatives, children, consorts or elderly people (who could call in the middle of the night due to problems of various nature).

How to activate Do Not Disturb on iPhone

Although the functionality is unique, it can be adjusted on the iPhone with different parameters, so as to adapt it to the needs of each of us. From simple total Do Not Disturb to Do Not Disturb with filtering for the most important contacts or Do Not Disturb when we are driving a vehicle (always very dangerous situation, so better not to answer calls at all and take advantage of this feature to drive safely).

Activate Total Do Not Disturb

To block any incoming phone call, we open the Settings app on our iPhone, then go to the Do not disturb menu.

By activating this item, calls and notifications will be muted. To silence the calls, let's go to the item Allow call from and set it to None . We can also choose when to apply the silent: we can silence every sound only when the phone is locked (activating the voice While iPhone is locked ) or always, so as to silence the sounds even with the screen on (activating the voice Always ). Basically, the iPhone deactivates Do Not Disturb if we receive a second call from the same number within 3 minutes (i.e. an urgent call): to deactivate this behavior and activate an absolute Do Not Disturb mode, we deactivate the item Repeated calls .
Alternatively we can activate the Do Not Disturb mode faster, by swiping up from the bottom edge or swiping down from the top right corner (from iPhone X and later), so as to open the Control Center and be able to activate the Do Not Disturb button (crescent shaped).

Activate Do Not Disturb with specific selection

If we want to ignore calls from strangers and be disturbed only by the numbers in the directory, simply go back to Settings -> Do not disturb and activate the All contacts item, in the Allow calls from section.

If instead we want to receive calls from a very small circle of people, in the same screen we activate the Favorites item, then go to the Phone app, tap on the Contacts tab, select the contact that can disturb us and press the Add to Favorites item .

All contacts will be added to the Favorites tab and they can call at any time, even with Do Not Disturb active.

How to program automatic do not disturb

We don't want to be disturbed at night or when we are at work ">
By activating the Sleep Mode the notifications will be hidden and the screen darkened, so as to prevent night awakenings due to the notifications or call alerts that the iPhone can release (turning on the screen and showing the notifications). We recommend that you always activate this Sleep mode if you are configuring the Do Not Disturb function for the night.

Activate Do Not Disturb while driving

To significantly increase driving safety, we can set Do Not Disturb to silence all calls and notifications, unless a Bluetooth audio device is connected to the device.
Let's always go to Settings -> Do not disturb, click on the item under the Do not disturb driving section and select When connected to Bluetooth or Automatically .

In this way, the iPhone will "notice" if we are driving when the internal sensors detect that we are moving at more than 40 km / h, automatically activating the Do Not Disturb mode; however, if we connect the smartphone to the car's Bluetooth system or to a Bluetooth headset, the calls will be available again.
To warn those who contact you about the inability to reply, we can configure the Answer automatically to item, setting a default message in the Automatic reply field.
This filter can be overridden only if we receive a further message with the word "Urgent", so that we can know immediately if the message received needs an immediate glance (obviously only after having approached the machine safely).
