How to open EML files in Email

Sometimes it may happen that you receive e-mail messages with .eml .xml .p7s file attachments that are often related to certified mail.
The format or extension of the EML file is that generated by the Microsoft Outlook program and is nothing but the email itself, which is sent as an attachment.
Especially those who work with the public administration and the chartered accountants who use certified mail a lot and use a mail program to send emails, end up sending protected and encrypted messages that appear to recipients as emails with different attachments made from a file EML with the name postacert.eml, an XML file called daticert.xml and one called smite.p7s .
The EML file is the email in file format with the original message, which is included in the attachment to the received email, which should in any case also be readable in the body of the message in Gmail or other webmail.
If not, you have to download the file with EML format and open it with an e-mail program or in another way, changing its extension.

To open an EML file on the Windows PC, we can do it in two ways: through a mail program or using a browser such as Internet Explorer.
In the first way, you have to download the EML file as if it were any other file received and save it in a folder.
Pressing it with the right mouse button, go to Open with and choose an email client such as Microsoft Outlook if installed, or Mail in Windows 10 or even Mozilla Thunderbird which is free.
You can download Thunderbird for free to receive emails on your computer from the Mozilla website so if you receive many emails with EML attachments, it may be convenient.
Alternatively, you can view the EML mail as an Internet Explorer file even if you need to rename it and change the file extension from .eml to .mht .
Once downloaded the EML attachment, therefore, make sure that the option to view the file extensions is active, then right click on it and change the .eml to .mht then calling postacert.mht .
You can then right-click on the mht file and choose to view it with Internet Explorer.
Since MHT files can also be opened from Google Chrome, the one just described is the simplest trick to open EML files from an Android smartphone without using additional applications.
After downloading the EML attachment, open the Download application from the list of apps and find the downloaded file.
Touch and hold on the EML file to select it, then press the top button with three dots to find the option that renames the file.
When renaming it, change extension to mht.
Now you can open that file with Chrome to read the original email message complete with the header, times, subject and address of the sender.
This trick is also possible on iPhone and iPad, although to rename the EML file to MHT you need to first install an app to manage files on iOS.
On Mac, EML files can be opened without problems using Apple's default Mail client built into the MacOS system.
Finally, as regards the attachments daticert.xml and smite.p7s, these are not files that need to be opened.
daticert.xml contains the certification information in XML format, smime.p7s, on the other hand, contains the certified signature.
