Block advertising pop-ups on Android

If on the Android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi, Huawei or others) you often see advertising screens that appear suddenly or using specific applications, you can check some settings to block pop-up ads on Android . Here we are not talking about innocent advertisements like those of websites like this that allow the author to work, but rather annoying, intrusive advertisements which disturb the use of the mobile phone and which can also lead to the installation of malware applications.
To avoid pop-ups on Android there is an option that concerns the permissions given to the apps, which could really be effective in blocking them.

How to block application pop-up ads on Android

Most of the pop-up ads on Android shown by apps (except in the case of games that show videos before or after a game), take advantage of a special and specific authorization called " Show on other apps " or write on other apps which is indispensable for some applications to overlap the app you are using (for example, there are apps that open in windows or even Facebook Messenger notifications.). However, this is an authorization that is requested by almost all applications and which is then also used to show pop-up ads on the screens of the Android phone.
To check which apps use this permission, open the Settings, go to the Apps or Apps and notifications section and then scroll down to find the special access options. On Huawei these are found in the list of applications, touching the menu with three dots in the upper right. Under special access you will find the list of applications that use the " show on other apps " permission.
Since every smartphone can have a different type of menu, to do it first it is better to use the search bar of the settings and to look for shows on other apps .
In the Show on other apps section, check the various applications if they have permission or not and deactivate all those that are used little or that may not be reliable. To do this first, you could disable this permission for all the apps and then, when asked, grant it only to the apps you trust.

Block website pop-ups

A different type of popup may also appear when browsing the internet. Using Chrome, however, you can touch the options button at the top right and then opening the settings. Scroll down, go to Site Settings to find various permissions that you can grant, including that of Popup and redirects and Ads, both to be kept activated.
