Speaking of Android smartphones, it is important to know the typing settings .
In the Settings, touch the System section to find Language and input > Virtual keyboard to find the customization options of the installed keyboard.
In many cases this keyboard is Google's Gboard, absolutely one of the best, which if missing can be installed from the Play Store.
In other cases the Microsoft Swiftkey keyboard may be found, which is a valid alternative.
Whatever the virtual keyboard is installed, you can go to Text Correction to enable or disable automatic correction, suggestions of words to be written based on the context, automatic spacing after punctuation and automatic capitalization after the point .
These are all things that can make writing on the phone screen quick.
Gboard is quite powerful in this sense because it also offers suggestions for subsequent words to be written based on the data of the Google apps that are used.
Even on iPhone you can activate the automatic correction by opening the Settings> General> Keyboard app where there are also options to activate or deactivate the automatic capitalization, to make sure to double tap the Space to take stock at the end of a phrase.
Automatic correction (misspelled words are automatically corrected) and predictive text (suggested words are shown above the keyboard) can be turned on or off as desired.
If the iPhone is a bit slow, it may be a good idea to turn off both options instead.
If you have the Gboard keyboard on your Android phone, there are numerous tricks to use for fast writing.
You can access the keyboard settings (as well as from the Android Settings as seen above), holding down the comma and moving your finger on the gear icon or even pressing the G on the additional line above the keys and then the three dots and the key gear.
From the menu that appears by pressing the comma you can also quickly activate the one-hand writing mode, to be quick when you have the other hand busy.
In the keyboard preferences (inside settings) it is possible to deactivate the row of numbers, change its height, change the way in which to open the list of emojis and symbols (for example choosing to long press for the symbols instead of changing the keyboard layout .
In Gboard Settings there is also a section of options dedicated to scrolling typing, where you can slide your finger along the keyboard without lifting it from the screen and leave the keyboard the task of understanding, based on the letters indicated, the word to be to type.
For example, if you want to type the word "book", you slide your finger on the L, then drag it to the I, then on the B and then the R after lifting the finger.
The application understands that you are trying to type the word "book" and writes it on the screen automatically, even if you don't finish the whole word.
The application works great for short words although it becomes a little more difficult to use for more complex and longer words.
If you get used to this way of writing, text and words are certainly faster on your phone.
On iPhone there is also the one-handed keyboard mode and to activate it you can long press the globe icon or go to Settings> General> Keyboards and touch the One-handed keyboard option.
Scroll typing can be obtained on iPhone by installing other applications, as we will see at the end of the post.
Keyboard shortcuts are ways to write entire sentences with abbreviations.
Whatever the phone used, you can set all the shortcuts you want, even if the suggestion bar could end up becoming very confusing.
For example, you can write " I'm coming home in a while " by writing only the letters vac .
The shortcut functionality is very simple to configure on Android and iPhone.
In Android just go to Settings> System> Languages and input> Virtual keyboard> Gboard (or any other writing app) and find the Dictionary .
Abbreviations can be added to the Personal Dictionary for new phrases or words to be written quickly.
On iPhone, the same type of trick can be achieved by opening Settings> General, in Keyboard and Text Replacement .
Install a keyboard other than the default .
As already mentioned, the keyboard of smartphones is nothing more than a default app.
Both Android and iOS support third-party keyboards that are worth trying to see if you are better off with a different scrasse mode.
For example, Gboard can be downloaded on both Android and iPhone, so you can take advantage of the suggestions of the next word, typing with scrolling and other features that it offers.
In another article we saw the main tricks and functions of Gboard.
Other well-known apps are SwiftKey, very smart, and Flesky, very customizable.
These and other best keyboards are listed in other specific articles on:

- The best keyboards for Android .
Do not forget, moreover, that it is also possible to write dictating verbally on Android and iPhone, which becomes particularly convenient when you are in the car or busy doing something else.
Anyone wishing to use the Android smartphone or tablet to write longer texts could then consider the idea of buying a USB keyboard to be connected to the mobile phone.
You can also turn the tablet into a portable PC, by buying a physical keyboard to attach, which costs no more than 30 Euros on Amazon.
