How many things can be done with a custom domain

Even those who have no intention of creating a website, those who do not have a blog or who want to use the internet only as a spectator could find it convenient, useful and advantageous to buy a personal domain .
A domain is nothing more than the address of a website like: claudio.com .
As with email addresses, a domain is unique and there can be no one else who can buy the rights to use that address.
Unlike websites, to register a domain you need to pay an annual subscription that can be a few or many Euros depending on the type.
Buying a custom domain ( Custom Domain ) means reserving the use of a second level internet address, using first level extensions referring to the countries of origin ( Internet country code top-level domain or ccTLD )
Anyone can register a domain .it (Italian), .us (American) or even .com .net or .info which are instead generic ( Generic top-level domain ).
Top-level domains in some countries have become popular around the world to identify certain types of pages or to compose imaginative words.
For example, the domain of Montenegro .me, that of Libya, .ly and that of the British Indian Ocean Territory .io are famous.
You can therefore buy and register a domain by paying online with a credit card or a Poste Pay and obtaining in exchange the parameters to use it.
Among these parameters there are the Cnames and the MXs that can be changed and configured according to the use made of the domain and always following guided procedures.
For example, if I bought pomhey.me, I could define a Cname for the flavors.me service and say that by going to claudio.pomhey.me (not necessarily starting with www), my personal card opens.
To buy a domain, there are many prooviders and suppliers, including Google Domains, perhaps the simplest.
To search for free domains and find every possible combination, instead, you can go to the Domai.nr site mentioned in the guide on how to find the domain name and the title of a new site.
Generally, but not necessarily, the domain is also accompanied by a hosting space, i.e. an online space in which it is possible to upload the files of a website, images, photos or other.
If not to make a website, what can you do with a domain "> Get a personalized email address or name and, therefore, an address like
2) Create a virtual business card as a web page .
You can then buy the domainnamenamename.com and configure the address on a site like Flavors.me.
3) Publish the curriculum vitae on the personalized domain online.
In this case you can use a perfect service like Zerply.com that allows you to create a visual and online curriculum, extracting the data, if you want, from Linkedin.

4) Use Google G Suite and all its applications.
Even if you do not have hosting, you can still use the standard version of Google Apps for free, which can be accessed by up to ten users and on which all Google services are available including Gmail.
Setting up Google Apps is not difficult even if, as mentioned above, it will be necessary to configure the various CNAME and MX records in the domain settings, as indicated by Google.
With Google Apps you can make a site with Google Sites, get a personalized email box with its calendar or other applications available in the marketplace.
5) Create custom URLs like Twitter shorteners .
From the Bit.ly web application, the best service to create short links and shorten URLs and share sites and web pages on Twitter, you can configure a custom short domain in advanced settings, so all shared links will have that personal address. .
With Google Apps you can also add the ShortUrl application.
6) Create a free personal website in a simple way that includes all your activities on the social networks Facebook and Twitter thus generating a blog that writes itself .
One of these services already mentioned in the related post is Italian and is called Overblog where you can configure your domain in the advanced settings.
It is also possible, with a personal domain and a little technical ability:
- create a personal proxy server through free applications such as Glype proxy.
- host a website on your home computer, aiming the domain on your public ip with the free dynDNS online service
If you have other ideas for using a custom domain and if I have convinced you, let me know about a comment.
