Indie games, for the uninitiated, are those developed by independent people, that is, they are not part of software houses or companies in the sector. This article was born from the official competition that Google Play has launched to nominate the best Indie games of the year, declaring a winner, a podium and then making a ranking of the 10 best games, plus 10 other finalists.
In absolute terms, it is not a complete ranking, as the competition only involved independent developers of some nationalities in Europe and not for all countries (for example, Italian developers were unable to participate).
Despite this limitation, that of the 10 best Indie games nominated by the Google Play competition remains an important collection, where it is possible to discover original and fun new titles for every smartphone Samsung, Huawei or other Android models, often also free to download and play .
Although I have not been able to try them all (also because some are paid), we see here the ranking published just a few days ago on the Google Play contest site.

1) Reigns has been named the best Indie game of the year, winner of the Google event, awarded by popular acclaim.
It is an extremely original game, where you have to make decisions as kings that influence a story told and to be read and followed.
It's like a book game, in Italian, where you have to deal with random events that are often completely crazy and, therefore, also very funny.
This is not a free game, it currently costs 3.50 Euros, which however will be really well spent.
2) The Battle of Polytopia is a free strategy game for Android.
In fact, we must rule the world, fight enemy tribes, discover new lands and invent new technologies.
this is perhaps the best turn-based game this year.
3) Causality is a puzzle game where you have to solve puzzles to alter the sequence of events in order to help a group of astronauts find a safe path to pass the level.
This "indie" game for Android is not free, but it costs 2, 50 Euros.
4) Pinout is a pinball game, with a very dark and fascinating graphics, with beautiful lights and a variant that requires you to be quick to make the ball go higher and higher on the screen.
5) Rusty Lake: Roots is a graphic adventure with room escape puzzles, it costs 3 Euros and is the last episode of a successful series (Rusty Lake) that lovers of the genre should know perfectly.
6) Gladiabots is a competitive (free) tactical game in which you drive, manage and decide the movements of a team of robots.
7) Paper Wings is a simple, fast-paced, arcade-type game where you have to fly a paper bird to keep it from slamming and collect the coins that you encounter during the horizontal scrolling path.
8) Happy Hop: Kawaii Jump is a very nice and colorful, fun and infinite platform game.
9) Lost in Harmony is a rhythmic runner game (free).
Compared to other similar games, here there is a story, an original gameplay and a really well-kept graphics, so much so that in some comments it is also called a masterpiece.
10) Miracle Merchant is a truly original free card game.
