Put a song as a ringtone ringtone on Android and iPhone

Everyone loves to customize the objects they buy to make them different from others and give their own touch of originality.
Personalizing your cell phone also means making it ring with a different ringtone to your taste, with your favorite song, with the melody or sound you want.
Just to meet this type of personalization of the phone, in this guide we will show you the methods to put a song as a ringtone on Android and iPhone .
The two operating systems are profoundly different both in terms of structure and in terms of approach to personalization, but in all cases we can set a personalized ringtone also by choosing a song in MP3 or an extract from a song that we like, so as to have a sound for calls completely personal and different from all the others (as long as the chosen song is not a catchphrase or a song so famous as to be used as a ringtone by others!).

1) How to set a song as a ringtone on Android
To set a song as a ringtone on an Android smartphone, we can load the songs on the PC into the internal memory of the phone, simply using a USB cable: connect the smartphone to one of the free ports on the PC and wait for the recognition of the memory .
After a few seconds we can access the internal folders of the phone by going to This PC or My Computer and opening the Android Phone device or similar. Once the smartphone's internal memory is open, we can copy any MP3 or other known music format (AAC or WMA) into the phone's Music folder.
If we want to use a different management tool than the simple file explorer of the system, we can try one of the recommended programs and apps in this guide -> Transfer files from PC and Android .
Once the songs are loaded into the phone's memory, we open the Settings app on it, go to the Sounds and Vibration menu and set the music song just loaded in the Phone ringtone menu.

The song should be available along with the predefined sounds; alternatively we can load it by choosing the Choose a local ringtone menu (only on some devices).
If the song does not appear, we restart the phone and try the steps above to force the song to appear among the available sounds as a ringtone.

2) How to set a song as a ringtone on iPhone
The procedure to set a song as a ringtone for iPhone requires the use of iTunes on our PC or Mac in order to load the desired songs on the phone.
First of all then install iTunes on our computer, open it and configure the iPhone by connecting it via the dedicated USB cable; to the request to synchronize the contents we answer Yes and continue on the main screen. To create the ringtone, drag the MP3 song to be converted into the iTunes Music menu, right-click on the song and select Information . Within this menu we select the Options tab, set a mark on the start and end items and type the start and end minutes of the ringtone to be created. When finished we click the OK button.
Now we right click on this modified file (appeared in the iTunes library) and select Show in Windows Explorer / Show in Finder (depending on the operating system in use). From the folder that will open rename the song by changing its extension from .m4a to .m4r (we can act more precisely on Windows by clicking on the top on View -> File name extensions ). Back in iTunes, we select the edited song and click DELETE on the keyboard to delete it, taking care to indicate Keep files when requested by the program.
To end, simply go to the Ringtones menu, present under the iPhone section of inside iTunes, and drag the .m4r file created a little while ago, so as to add our song to the ringtones on the iPhone. After loading, disconnect the iPhone and go to the Settings menu -> Sounds -> Ringtone to choose the personalized ringtone created a little while ago on iTunes.

If these steps seem too complicated, we can also buy the ringtones offered by Apple itself in its store, so as to immediately get the ringtones of the desired songs. To purchase ringtones, go to the Settings menu -> Sounds -> Ringtone and click on the Ringtones item on the iTunes Store .

A specific section of the store will open where you can find the most famous sounds of historical films and TV series, plus extracts of the most famous songs and ringtones of the moment. All purchased songs are immediately available as ringtones: in case we have changed iPhone recently, simply use the Download all purchased ringtones item, present in the Ringtone menu seen a little while ago.
