The 10 most common questions in technology and computer science

There are some problems that sooner or later we all have to face in using technology, some of which become everyday.
Here we try to answer the typical questions asked to the geek friend, the one who is a little tech savvy or who pretends to be such.
This article answers 10 of the most common technical questions .
1) How can I keep my laptop battery charged for as long as possible "> Will my laptop battery get damaged if it stays attached?
- How to charge your cell phone battery faster
- Why does the smartphone battery last so short?
2) What kind of problems do viruses, Trojans and other malware cause?
Everyone knows that viruses and Trojans are something to avoid and that cause serious problems on the computer, but not everyone knows exactly how they work.
Viruses, for example, are programs that copy themselves silently and infect a computer, spreading just like viruses do in real life.
Trojans, on the other hand, are applications that seem normal, but which secretly have something in their code to take control of the computer.
Viruses and Trojans are malware which is the name to indicate computer infections (even if, for commercial reasons, we speak more of antivirus than antimalware).

3) What's wrong with using public Wifi?
Most of us, when they find an open and public wifi network, do not hesitate for a moment to connect to the internet, with the computer or with the smartphone.
Public Wi-Fi networks, however, are not at all secure because they allow anyone to connect and can hide pitfalls.
The problem is that the data sent over the internet using the wifi network are potentially visible to anyone connected to the same network.
It is therefore worth being careful when surfing the internet from a public Wifi

4) Is it really necessary to eject a USB drive connected to the computer before unplugging it?
This is the question of the century, why does the computer always warn you to safely remove the USB before unplugging it?
The thing is, computers use something called a write cache to improve performance, so if you make a copy, it may not be done yet, even if Windows says it is complete.
If you are using a Windows computer you can safely avoid removing the USB stick by changing a system setting.
On other computers, Macs, Linux and even Windows not proper, it is recommended to always do the safe removal to avoid the risk of data loss.
5) How to distinguish spam emails?
Some emails are obvious spam, such as those of Viagra or those of people who earn millions of Euros without doing anything or others who lose 30 kilos in two days.
The dangerous spam instead is the so-called Phishing, that is the sending of emails that are apparently serious and true, in which, however, the spammer tries to deceive the recipient by trying to steal personal data, passwords or bank access.
Fortunately, you can usually find out the trick by checking the sender's address and knowing that no bank or site will ever ask you to communicate or change your password via email or phone.

8) What happens when a site is hacked?
Some large sites happen to be modified or compromised by hackers or organized hackers.
Whenever you read the news of a hacked site to which you are registered, it is better to change the password and make sure that the password registered on that site has not been used for other online services.

9) What happens if I get caught downloading movies or music on BitTorrent?
Theoretically, the internet provider can look at each person's traffic and find out who illegally downloads material from the internet.
The consequences may vary from case to case, some may block P2P traffic or limit internet bandwidth for a specific user.
To my knowledge, however, no one in Italy has ever ended up in jail for downloading a movie.

10) Do I really need to worry about my Internet privacy?
There are people who are afraid to look out the window, others who leave the front door wide open on a street full of people.
There is always a middle ground, personal data must be protected and one must be careful to configure various privacy settings on sites like Facebook and not to write personal things publicly on any website.
At the same time, however, if you want to surf the Internet in a participatory way, you must also expose yourself and put your face on it because talking always anonymously is not useful and not even fun.
