Google has made a nice surprise and a nice gift to everyone today by announcing that its QuickOffice application will be free today both in the iOS and Android version, optimized for both mobile phones and tablets.
The new Quickoffice application supports Google Drive cloud storage and requires you to log in using a Google account, otherwise it is identical to the paid version that was available until yesterday, which cost almost 20 Euros.
Quickoffice was an application that entered the Google universe to help Google Docs manage files created with Microsoft Office better.
Today Quickoffice and the applications for documents in Google Drive are very similar, allowing both to create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
The difference is that Quickoffice also works offline, as if it were a classic word processor, which allows you to create and edit Microsoft Office files and annotations in PDFs .
Files uploaded using Quickoffice cannot be edited from Google Drive without converting them. Google Drive doesn't allow you to create or edit files when your phone or tablet is offline.
QuickOffice then is a true Microsoft Office clone and allows you to edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents from your tablet or smartphone without having to make conversions.
Quickoffice, with an intuitive and easy-to-use interface, offers more functionality than Google Drive and allows you to open files without having to upload them to the cloud first .
Hoping that the two applications will merge in the future, in one app, it is worth today to install QuickOffice on Android or on iPhone or iPad also because Google gives 10GB of free livero space in Google Drive for 2 years.
This is if you access your Google account from the new Quickoffice by September 26, 2013.
In 2014 the QuickOffice app was withdrawn.
