Make the life of a smartphone last longer

Depending on the models and, sometimes, of its cost, a smartphone can be more or less resistant over time and last longer.
An iPhone, for example, costs a lot but, if well maintained and preserved, it can last several years without giving significant signs of decline in its performance while instead, a 100 Euro smartphone can easily show signs of suffering already after a year or be very more fragile to falls and bumps.
The (good) times of the legendary Nokia 3310 are far away, which could also be pulled from the window without breaking it.
Today you have to be quite careful with a smartphone, because it can be very fragile, because it can cost a lot to break it and because inside there can be data, photos and important information that you would not want to lose.
So below we see 10 recommendations to make any smartphone last longer and increase its life despite the passing of the years .
1) Turn off your mobile phone and restart it every so often
The smartphone is exactly like a computer and, turning it off, it clears its memory and removes the errors caused by bugs or poorly designed applications.
The advice is therefore to restart it at least once a week if not more often and, if possible, also to keep it off for an hour or less.
2) Disable, when not in use, both Wifi and bluetooth
Always keep Wifi or Bluetooth active even when not in use is just a waste of battery power.
Better to turn them off when there is no reason to keep them on.
3) Do not expose your phone to extreme temperatures
A phone is not designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, i.e. temperatures that are too high or too low.
Ideally, a smartphone works well when the temperature is between 0 and 30 degrees Celsius.
In colder or warmer temperatures, the battery that will drain first will suffer.
Obvious consequence of this is not to leave a smartphone in the sun.
4) Allow the battery to discharge often or always completely
One of the main rules for increasing the life of a lithium ion battery is not to always recharge it when it is at zero.
Over time, in fact, this type of behavior exhausts the battery's charging capacity and makes it age.
This is one of the rules on how often to charge the mobile phone battery to extend its duration, among which we also remember the one for which it is not convenient to recharge the mobile phone at 100% (and, consequently, it is not convenient to recharge it at night).

6) Don't download too many apps that can slow down your phone .
If you have too many applications installed and that are always running in the background, not only will you drain the battery first, but also slow down the performance, especially on cheaper smartphones.
We have seen, in another article, how to recognize the apps that slow down Android from the start and which are the apps that drain battery in the mobile phone, which are the ones that use the synchronization service the most.
In addition to this, avoid downloading apps from different places than the official store.
7) Operating system updates
As for iPhones and Android smartphones, system updates come out every year that bring a new version.
These updates always add new features and are, theoretically, optimized to work on any device.
The problem is that, if you have an older phone, updating the system can bring more problems than benefits, slowing performance even dramatically.
This has happened in the past for iPhones 3G and 4 and cheaper Android tablets like the Nexus 7.
8) Make the phone traceable if it is lost or stolen
Modern smartphones have an automatic tracking system that allows the user to find their position in case they are lost.
By adding some apps it is also possible to apply a real burglar alarm capable of taking photos of the thief, of communicating his position and of sending a command to delete all the memory in case there are no more hopes.

It is also important to recover the IMEI code so that you can block your mobile phone in case of theft.
9) Use a protective cover
While the films on the screen are of no use on modern smartphones, the case can instead be a salvation, especially for the most distracted people.
I'm not a fan of cases because they make cell phones bigger and more bulky especially in the pocket, but it is obvious that in the event of a fall, a case avoids damage that can even be fatal.

10) Beware of the phone in your pocket
How many times have I heard of people who broke their smartphone because they sat forgetting to have their cell phone in the back pocket of their pants.
