Dropbox or Google Drive as a PC disk partition

If we use a cloud service such as Dropbox, such as Onedrive or Google Drive, we can install the relative synchronization program to see all the files stored in the cloud in a special folder.
In this article we see, however, how to map Dropbox or Google Drive or any other similar cloud service so that the synchronization folder is seen by Windows as if it were a partition or a disk on the PC .
this can be really convenient because we can manage, having Dropbox seen as a partition or disk, to activate automatic Windows backups with the File History function.
The method to see Dropbox (but the procedure is the same for Google Drive or Onedrive) as a PC disk or partition is really simple thanks to a small additional program that does all the configuration work for us.
After installing Dropbox on the PC, as we know, it does not appear as a PC partition, but as a folder that you can bookmark for quick access.
To use Dropbox as a normal PC partition, you only need to install the free Visual Subst program, which allows you to map Dropbox or other cloud services as if they were internal or external (virtual) disks connected to your computer.
First, we should already have the Dropbox program.
The folder for synchronization should be in the location C: \ Users \ username \ Dropbox (check that it is).
Then install Visual Subst, open it and select a letter from the drop-down list to assign it to Dropbox.
The letter is the identification on the PC of the new virtual disk.
You can choose any letter from A to Z, however, counting that C: is the installation disk, that F is the external disk, that D is the DVD.
In order not to fetch already used letters, you can assign the drive letter "R" to Dropbox.
Once you have made your choice, copy, in the space below, the path of the Dropbox folder which, if no different choices have been made, is that in the path indicated a few lines above.
The procedure ends by activating the option to activate the vertical drive at Windows startup).
At this point, click the + button to add the virtual drive and map Dropbox as a PC disk.
Now Windows will see the cloud folder of Dropbox or Onedrive or Google Drive as if it were a disk partition on your computer and you can perform all backup operations to save important files in the cloud.
