Google today released an update of the "New Tab" of the Chrome browser which now includes the search bar and the new Google logo above the thumbnails of the most visited sites. Opening a new tab on Chrome will, as of now, be like opening the google.it homepage, so much so that any special or "doodle" logos that Google uses to celebrate particular events or anniversaries will also appear on this page.
The only requirement for getting the new Chrome tab is for Google to be the default search engine in Chrome.
To check or change the default search engine, right click on the address bar at the top.
This modification of Google Chrome has a certain impact not only aesthetic, also because now the application screen can no longer be opened in the new tab.
Applications are now a button at the top left of the bookmarks bar.
If you don't have the bookmarks bar, press the three lines button at the top right, go to bookmarks and select " show bookmarks bar ".
The applications button opens the list of installed applications, what was previously the default home tab.
The list of applications opens now on the special page chrome: // apps /
Chrome applications can also be opened from the Windows taskbar thanks to the recent function of the Chrome App Launcher button.
Experts will argue that the new Google box of the new tab appears superfluous since the search function in Chrome is already integrated in the address bar.
The new tab with logo and search bar integrated in Chrome can however be convenient for the many inexperienced surfers who prefer to open the Google site every time they open the browser.
Google says in the Chromium blog that this new tab makes loading much faster than before.
It is worth, with the new tab, to choose a theme on Chrome to change browser graphics and colors.
