Do you want to access Virgilio Mail on all your devices? By following the steps of this guide, you will no longer have to consult your mail on the virgilio.it site every time through your browser, but you will be able to consult your mail directly from your PC, smartphone or tablet with the email program you prefer. Although it may seem difficult, setting up Virgilio Mail on various programs or devices is simple: all you need are some parameters necessary to send and receive your mail.
The procedures for accessing Virgilio Mail are very similar to each other and, once you have learned how to do it on a particular program or an app, you will be able to easily repeat the process. The programs and apps that you will learn to configure with this guide are the Windows 10 Mail app, the Outlook for Windows program (integrated in Office 2016), the Thunderbird program, the Gmail mail app for Android and the Mail app iPhone and iPad.
Before continuing: difference between POP and IMAP
To manage your Virgilio mail you will have to choose whether to use the POP3 protocol or the IMAP protocol ; in both cases you can manage your e-mail, but these two protocols have some differences in the way it is managed.
- The IMAP protocol allows you to synchronize the emails of your Virgilio mailbox on multiple devices, because these remain stored on the server even when you download and read them.
- POP3 protocol does not allow you to synchronize email messages on multiple devices since, once downloaded from a program or an app, they are deleted from the server - so if you connect with another program or another app, you will not be able to view messages already downloaded elsewhere.
I strongly advise you to access Virgilio Mail using the IMAP protocol ; rely on the POP3 protocol only if you have problems with some particularly old programs.
Virgilio Mail's parameters are the same for all the devices you want to configure; first of all it recovers these two parameters.
- Username: your email address (for example )
- Password: the password you use to enter your Virgilio Mail
For the other parameters follow the following screens.

However, keep in mind that some programs and some apps are able to collect this information yourself, so you may not need to enter it manually.
To configure Virgilio Mail on the Windows 10 Mail app, first open the app from the Start menu, then click on Accounts and again on Add Account.
Select the Other Account (POP, IMAP) item from the next panel : the first configuration panel will appear. Enter this information in the window:
- Email address: your Virgilio email address (for example )
- Send messages with this name: the name that will be displayed by those who receive the messages (for example, Navigaweb editorial staff);
- Password: the password with which you access your Virgilio mail.
Finally click on Login : you're done! Windows 10 Mail will automatically set the parameters and you can immediately send and receive emails using this program.
To configure Virgilio Mail on Outlook, first open the program, then click on the File item at the top left, then on the Account Settings button and again on Account Settings ...
Click now on the E-mail tab and then on the New button; in the following window fill in the data as required.
- in Name enter the name you want to appear to the recipient of your messages (eg. Navigaweb editorial staff)
- in E-mail address enter your email Virgilio, then enter twice the access password where requested
Click on Next and wait a few seconds: Outlook will automatically detect the IMAP settings for Virgilio and try to log in with your username and password. If you have typed them exactly, you will find yourself in front of a window that will show you the configuration confirmation of the Virgilio Mail account in Outlook. At this point click on Finish: you can immediately use your e-mail.
Open the Thunderbird program, then tap on the menu at the top right (the one with the three horizontal lines), hover the mouse over the Options item and select Account Settings from there. Now click on Account Actions and then on Add Mail Account.
Now write the name that you want the recipient to view (in this example "Redazione Navigaweb"), then enter your email address complete with Virgilio Mail and the access password; at the end tap on Continue .
At this point Thunderbird should have automatically detected the configuration for the mail server, as you can see from the image below.
If the parameters are the same, you can safely click on Done : Thunderbird will check your password and, once checked, you can immediately use Virgilio Mail.
If, on the other hand, there are problems and you cannot automatically obtain the parameters, click on Manual Configuration . Configure your account as you see in the image below.
Tap on Done : at this point Thunderbird will check your password and you can immediately use Virgilio Mail.
Open the Gmail app and tap on the menu at the top left (the one with the three horizontal bars)
Scroll all the way down and select Settings, then Add Account .
On the next screen tap on Other .
Now enter your Virgilio Mail email address. Once this is done, do not select Next, but tap the Back button on your smartphone to make the keyboard disappear and select Manual Setting.
In the next screen select IMAP (as I recommended in the previous paragraphs), then tap on Next.
In the Username entry enter your Virgilio Mail address, in Password enter the password to access your mailbox and in Server enter the Virgilio Mail incoming mail server, i.e. in.virgilio.it. Tap on Next.
In the next window move the “Request Access” switch to On; then, again, in the User Name entry enter your email address, in Password enter the password to access your mailbox and in Server enter the Virgilio Mail outgoing mail server, i.e. out.virgilio.it. Tap on Next .
Now you can give a name to your account (it will be displayed in the app) and decide the name that will be displayed by those who receive your messages (in this example I used "Navigaweb Editorial"); then you just have to decide when and how your emails should be synchronized.
A tap on Avanti and you can finally send and receive Virgilio Mail mail through the Gmail app of your Android device.
Setting up Virgilio Mail on iPhone and iPad is simple! Enter the Settings section of your device and tap on the item Mail, Contacts, Calendars . Now search for the Account item and then tap on Add Account .
Now tap on More and then on Add Mail Account .
At this point you are ready to configure Virgilio Mail on iPhone or iPad: in the Name entry type a name for your account, in the e-mail entry type your complete Virgilio Mail address and, finally, in the Password entry type the password you use for access Virgilio Mail. If you wish, you can also enter a brief description of your account (for example, Virgilio Account).
Tap on Next.
The Mail app should automatically configure your Virgilio Mail account; if not, you will have to manually enter the required information: first tap on IMAP in the upper left corner, then enter the parameters listed in the previous paragraph. When you have completed the insertion, tap on Save : you managed to configure Virgilio Mail on your iPhone or iPad.
Configure Virgilio Mail on other programs and apps
In this guide I showed you how to configure Virgilio Mail on the most well-known programs and mobile email apps.
There are obviously many other similar programs, however the procedure is roughly the same : you will simply have to find the section on adding a new account and, where required, enter your credentials. In case the program or the app are not able to automatically detect the settings of the Virgilio Mail server, you can use those that I have shown you in the second paragraph of this guide.

Click on Next and wait a few seconds: Outlook will automatically detect the IMAP settings for Virgilio and try to log in with your username and password. If you have typed them exactly, you will find yourself in front of a window that will show you the configuration confirmation of the Virgilio Mail account in Outlook. At this point click on Finish: you can immediately use your e-mail.
Configure Virgilio Mail on Thunderbird
Open the Thunderbird program, then tap on the menu at the top right (the one with the three horizontal lines), hover the mouse over the Options item and select Account Settings from there. Now click on Account Actions and then on Add Mail Account.
