Samsung smartphone slowing down: how to do it

The Samsung are the best-selling phones in the world also thanks to the presence in each price range: we can find very good phones above € 400 but also cheaper phones between € 100 and € 300, which often have important limitations in terms of performance.
In fact, the problems of these cheap Samsung smartphones, like the latest Samsung A10, but in general of any low-cost Android phone, are very evident: I have little space in the internal memory, they have a limited amount of RAM, they are slow when we open an app or when we switch from one screen to another and have a poor camera .
To solve these problems and get the most out of a Samsung phone or, in general, from an inexpensive or old Android smartphone, in this guide we will show you how to intervene if the Samsung smartphone is slow or freezes often, so you can take full advantage of it without fear sudden slowdowns. Obviously we cannot do miracles, but at least get useful performances to use the chat apps, the browser and the email app.

Speed up a cheap Samsung phone (Android)

By following all the advice that we are going to show you below, we will be able to speed up the low-end Samsung or with a few years on your shoulders.

Set up a light launcher

Samsung's TouchWiz is the default launcher of all the phones produced by the Korean manufacturer: it is very complete and customizable, but it takes up a lot of RAM memory space, slowing down older or low-memory Samsung phones. To overcome the problem, just install a very light launcher like Lawnchair Launcher.

With it we will get a minimal launcher, widely customizable and with a slightly different approach to open and catalog the apps, which will allow you to switch from one app to another at a very high speed. Once installed and started on our system (we provide all the permissions to be able to take full advantage of the launcher), we restart the phone to permanently close the old launcher and leave only Evie in memory (it may be necessary to also close the active apps, holding down on Home key or scrolling from the bottom edge to the center of the screen, keeping your finger pressed).
Alternatively we can use one of the light launchers reported in our guide to the fastest and lightest Android launchers for slow smartphones .

Install very few apps and use the web browser

If our smartphone has little RAM and little internal memory, it does not make much sense to install all the apps that come to mind: since we will rarely use them all, it is better to install only the fundamental apps and leave access to some services to the browser system.

The only apps that we recommend you install are:
  1. Whatsapp
  2. Telegram
  3. Messenger Lite
  4. Facebook Lite

We do not install any other app on our phone, unless it is strictly necessary for work or for socializing (for example Instagram is very heavy and requires a lot of RAM in order to remain in the memory to show notifications of the photos).
If we need to visit the web page of a service, just use the Samsung Browser app, light and fast enough to be able to open the Web pages without slowing down the phone too much. The Facebook site on Chrome for example is also capable of sending notifications, so we can also avoid installing a dedicated app and obtain most of the features by taking up very little memory space.
In general, we always try to use the system apps already present on the phone (on Samsung there should already be everything necessary), so as to avoid making the phone boot and opening the apps too heavy.
Also, don't forget to delete the Samsung system apps as explained in another article.

Move all photos to the cloud automatically

When you have little built-in memory on your smartphone, quickly moving photos and videos from the internal memory to the cloud becomes essential to keep your phone fast and snappy, even after months of use. To do this, simply take advantage of the automatic synchronization service offered by Google Photos, a system app already present on practically any Samsung.

Once the app is open, make sure that you are logged in with our Google account (if we have already installed apps, access will be automatic), we tap at the top left on the button with the three horizontal lines, we press on the menu Settings and select Backup and Sync .

In the screen that will open make sure that there is a check mark next to the item Backup and synchronization, then choose the folders to be backed up using the item Folders of the device backed up (the photos taken with the camera are already included in the backup, here we will choose the other folders that contain photos, videos or images).
Once backup is activated, personal photos and videos will be uploaded to the Google cloud automatically every time we are connected to a Wi-Fi network (we can also upload photos via data network, but we will have to activate the specific item in the app settings and have a data plan of at least 30 GB). All our shots, photos and videos are available on the Google Photos website or with the PC Backup and Sync program.
Once synchronization is activated, just go to the Google Photos app, open the side menu and use the item Free space to remove the photos and videos already saved on the cloud from the internal memory, so as to save a lot of space without losing your memories and more beautiful shots (the app will report at regular intervals the possibility of deleting the photos already saved, so as to proceed with a scheduled cleaning).
To learn more about Google Photos, we recommend reading the guides on the Google Photos App with unlimited backup from Android, iPhone and PC and 25 Google Photos Cheats and special options for images and videos on smartphones and PC .

Use a high-quality camera app

If the camera of our Samsung is poor, we can try to improve the situation by changing the app with which we take the shots. One of the best free and compatible camera apps with all Samsung is Open Camera.

With this app we will be able to take very beautiful photos, adjusting all the parameters of the shot as if we were on an SLR or a compact digital camera.
If we intend to deepen the topic, we recommend you read our guide to the best camera apps for Android, where we will find all the best alternatives to Open Camera.

Conclusions

If your Samsung smartphone is slow or takes too bad photos, following the advice above we will be able to speed up the phone just enough to use it every day without waiting for the app to open.
If there is little space in the phone's internal memory, we can also read our guide on how to free up space on the Android memory and on the SD card, so that you can also recover the space occupied by the unnecessary files generated by the operating system and apps.
If instead we received the full memory warning, the only way to continue using the phone is to read our study on How to Survive with Android with full internal memory or out of space on the phone .
