Simplify Windows 10 by fixing some options

With Windows 10 Microsoft has certainly fixed some of the most annoying problems of Windows 8.1, including, first of all, the missing Start menu and the fact that the applications did not open in a window but always in full screen.
At the same time, however, adding changes and new features, it has left other small problems of which it is better to realize immediately so as to solve and fix them before they create annoyance or irritation.
These are not system errors, but small practical problems to simplify in Windows 10 that can be immediately fixed by changing some options.

1) Fix the Start menu
We have already talked about how to customize the Windows 10 Start menu by describing in each option that you can change in the settings and in the various menus.
The lack of a Start menu was the main problem of Windows 8 that Microsoft had tried, with little success, to put a patch with Windows 8.1.
We then saw how to adjust the size of the tile area by dragging the right edges of the Start menu, how to move the tiles and how to add each program or file to the list.
With the right changes and after a little use, I believe that any bad mood will pass and you will end up appreciating the new Start menu.
In Windows 10 the Start menu can be satisfactory for those coming from Windows 8.1, but it can still be inconvenient for those coming from Windows 7 since the programs cannot be grouped into folders.
To fix things and restore the classic style of the Windows 7 Start menu in Windows 10 you can install a free program like Classic Shell to which a special article has been dedicated.
2) Change the app association to open the files.
By installing Windows 10 some internal apps such as the one for viewing photos, the one for listening to music and also the web browser are automatically set as default.
If you want to reuse your favorite programs, you have to enter Windows 10 settings from the Start menu, go to the system options and configure the default apps from the relative menu.
You can also change the default program in the traditional way, by right-clicking on a file and going to the Open with menu, selecting the option "always use this program" to permanently associate the program with that extension.
3) Remove the search bar and virtual desktops button from the system tray
The search bar that Windows 10 puts on the taskbar is practically a duplicate of the search bar in the Start menu.
The main difference is that the search bar can activate Cortana's voice assistant and can be used to search the internet.
Those who are not interested can still make it disappear and hide by pressing on it with the right mouse button, going to Cortana and hiding the search bar.
The same can be done for the " task view " button which provides quick access to virtual desktops.
If you are not using virtual desktops, right-click on the button and hide the activity viewer from its option.

4) Remove the "Quick Access" icons from the side menu of the folders.
Quick Access replaces the favorites of Windows 8, but unlike these it fills up automatically with the most used folders.
Quick access can actually be a convenient feature, but if you prefer, for privacy reasons, not to see the most recently used folders, you can disable it.
Open File Explorer, click on top of view and then right on Options and at the bottom you can find the option to hide quick access and remove the most used folders.
5) Change or remove the colors of the application bar
Windows 10, in the settings -> Personalization, has a menu to change the colors of the taskbar of each window which can also vary automatically based on the background.
6) Disable or block Windows 10 driver updates
Many people have complained about automatic driver updates and the inability to disable automatic updating of Windows Update.
In another article, we explained all the possibilities to manage updates and block Windows Update on Windows 10 .
7) Mute the notification center
If too many unnecessary alerts arrive in the notification center, you can open it by clicking the message icon near the clock at the bottom right and press the do not disturb button.
Furthermore, for notifications that do not interest you, just press the right mouse button on a notification and deactivate the notifications for that application.
